Wednesday, May 6

I think we finally have the calendar figured out! Please have a look at your child's revised calendar that came home in their Blue Books today. May is such a busy month and the scheduling has been hectic but I think it is all sorted out now. Please feel free to call me if you have any questions about the activities taking place in May.
Just a reminder to all the mom's! We will be having a tea in your honor on Monday the 11th. Mark your calendars to be there as it will be a lot of fun.

Just wanted to thank Mr. Lunty and Mr. Swaren for being such good sports and letting the kids jump all over them. At one point I heard a student say "This is my BEST year ever" as they were playing with dads!

What a fun day! We had our first session with Trickster and the kids had a ball! We worked with Cari to learn our script and actions for the Friday night performance. Our story revolves around Easter and rabbits visiting our room. To find out more, you'll have to come the final show. It is at 7pm here at the school in the gym. We worked on printing numbers 7 and 8. All through the year we have been printing all the numbers but now we are fine tuning all the details. In math we are starting to explore the concept of more and less by comparing quantities. After a break enjoying the fresh air, we printing Mr. Rr. I hope everyone had a great Easter and is ready to get back into the swing of things. Just a reminder that all the kids have school on Friday with Mrs. McMahon!

April 8, 2009

Holy, I can't believe we are in April already and I didn't post anything in March! I'm sorry!
Today was a busy one. We started the morning with our usual routine and then added some Easter excitement by making rice krispie nests with our Grade 3 buddies. Eating the nests and the chocolate eggs was definitely the highlight. We met Mr. R who likes to "rip rubber elastics".

After enjoying the beautiful weather at recess we headed downtown to the Public Library for Story time. They have been so generous to invite us down for a great reading and sharing program. Once back, the new hit in our room is the workshop. With the money donated at Christmas time, we bought a number of power tools for the kids to enjoy!

I can't believe it will be a week before we see each other again but I hope everyone has a Happy Easter and a great long weekend!
P.S Ask your kindergarten student to do the Easter Bunny Hokey Pokey with you for some fun over the holidays.

Pink Shirt Day!

Pink Shirt day was a success!! The hallway in the morning looked like a sea of pink. Once we were done admiring everyone's pink clothes we moved on to learning our new letter person! Today we met Mr. Gg. Mr. G has gooey gum in his hair and may very well be a cousin to Mr. J as we learned when we were making our word web. Due to the cold weather we decided not to go skating and instead had an afternoon filled with library, BINGO and a Kindness assembly.
We talked about what a Bully is and what you can do if someone is bullying you. You should be very proud of your children as we had over 150 entries in our Random Acts of Kindness draw. As most of you know, the field trip to TH Ranch on Friday has been rescheduled until March 13. Have a great evening!

February 23, 2009

Sorry it has been so long since my last post! We had an exciting day today. We reviewed all of the letters we had learned up until now and did some more exploring around the letter Dd. Everyone did a great job of printing both upper and lower case letter D. After snack, we worked on our letter recognition by splitting into two groups to play BINGO. Your children are doing such an fabulous job of learning how to sign on to the computers. After only two times on our own in the computer lab, they are able to get themselves signed in. The Grade 3 class was kind enough to let us join them in the Big Gym where we got to play games that they had invented. The kindergarten kids had a great time.
**Just some reminders for Wednesday. They have moved our hot lunch to this day and it is also Pink Shirt Day. Your kids will have notes to explain each of these events more fully. Have a nice evening.

In the afternoon we headed down to the computer lab to learn how to sign in with our "super secret" passwords. We spent some time in Tux Paint where the kids has a lot of fun designing art work and discovering how the program worked. The day ended with exploring the classroom with magnifying glasses.

PJ Pattern Party was a success!! Our grade 3 buddies joined us in the morning to make pattern necklaces with Fruit Loops and string licorice. Then they helped us play alphabet BINGO. The afternoon saw skating, Pattern Party Popcorn and center time. We are currently working on letter Uu. Miss U has an umbrella! It would be great if you could point out words around your house that start with the letter U! Report cards went home with your kids today. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.
Have a great weekend!

Today was a good one! I got to teach today as Mrs. McMahon is still out with a back injury. Mrs. Sveahun and I had a great day with the kids. We were able to spend some time in the computer room with the Grade 3 kids and while half of us were doing that the other half did a winter craft. The afternoon was spent playing soccer and trying to set a world record. The entire elementary was spit up into 5 groups. Each group had to read 5 Robert Munsch books in the same order in 30 minutes. We had some fabulous guest readers who would have done Robert Munsch proud. I hope everyone has a great weekend and we'll be back on Monday.

January 14, 2009

Hello! Today was a great day in Kindergarten. We finished up our printing of the Letter Ii. The rest of the morning was consumed by a science experiment about icebergs. We froze water balloons on Monday and then peeled off the plastic. We put our "icebergs" in an aquarium to see how much of the ice was on top of the water and how much was below. The kids all predicted that the ice would sink but much to their amazement, it floated.

Happy New Year!! I hope everyone's holiday was great and that Santa was good to you all. January looks to be a busy month. Lots to learn and it sounds like we will be skating once a week. In school today we reviewed the letters we had learned up until now and introduced letter Ii. Miss I has itchy skin because she has chicken pox. We talked about New Year's, made 2009 hats and counted down to the new year. The afternoon saw us at library and then reflecting on the best part of 2008. All of the kids have school on Friday with Mrs. McMahon and our newsletter and calendar will go home on Monday.
