December 17, 2008

Merry Christmas!! Today was the last day of kindergarten before the holidays and it was full of Christmas Fun! We started the day off in the typical way and right before lunch Mrs. Fink brought in a Gingerbread house to be decorated. We worked on printing the letter Ee. For the small letter e we talked about playing baseball. You start by hitting the ball straight out and then you start running the bases 1, 2, 3. You have to make sure that second base touches the straight line. The afternoon started with library followed by a surprise craft that you parents will be receiving today. Then on with the party.........
I hope you and your family have an excellent holiday season and we will see you at the Christmas Concert and then on January 7, 2009!

December 10, 2008

Big day today! We met with our Grade Three buddies in the computer room to explore some Christmas activities that were on Mrs. Coutt's website. If you get a chance, check it out. It is great! After lunch, we headed out on a field trip to the Public Library for their Christmas Story time. Once we had finished reading, the kids got a chance to decorate a huge Christmas card. We have added Mrs. Claus's kitchen and Santa's Workshop to our center circuit. They are hugely popular and the kids are having a blast. I hope this entry finds you well on your way to completing your Christmas preparations.

December 8, 2008

Today in Kindergarten we met the Miss E. She likes to exercise! You may have noticed that the letter A was also a Miss. The vowel letters are Miss and the other letters are Mr. We colored Miss E and put her in our Alphabet Books. On Wednesday we will work on printing upper and lower case letter Ee. After lunch we learned about Madison's favorite things as she was our really great person. Then we focused on introducing the number three. Although most of the children are able to recognize with ease the numbers 1-5, I am working with having them see the number many different ways. We saw it in dots on dice and made the shape in play doh and with Wikki sticks.
Just a reminder to send your child's hat with them to school as soon as possible for the Christmas concert. They do not have to be purchased. Any hat from home would do just fine.
I hope everyone has a great evening.

December 3, 2008

December 3 and we finally have a little bit of snow (and a cold wind to go with it). Today we focused on printing on the upper and lowercase Bb. Everyone seemed to have a really good grasp on it. We reviewed our numbers 1-10 and practised counting up to 10 and back down to 10. If you get a chance to practise with your child, have them count to 10 starting at a number other than 1 and the same with counting backwards. This really reinforces number fluency. A art project was sent home to be decorated with whatever you can find around the house. I am working on the interim reports to be sent home with your child next week so keep and eye out for them in the Blue Books! Have a great weekend everyone!

December 1, 2008

We kicked off December in good fashion! After review the letters we have learned already:
Mr. T has tall teeth
Mr. M has a munching mouth
Mr. N has a noisy nose
Miss. A goes AAACHHOOO
Mr. H has horrible hair
Mr. F has funny feet
we learned about Mr. B who has beautiful buttons. There was lots of singing new winter songs today and we started practising for the Christmas Concert (Wednesday, December 17 at 7:00 in the Community Hall). New calendars and newsletters went home today as well as permission forms that must be returned by Wed. December 3.
